Hair Transplant Cost

Hair transplant costs are really reasonable when you compare them against other forms of hair loss treatment that you have to use day after day for the rest of your life. Once the original hair transplantation procedure is accomplished there is very little follow up care that needs to be done. In fact, the hair implants will grow just like your natural hair did before it fell out.

The cost of hair transplant procedures well vary based on several factors. One of these is geographical location. Not all areas of the country have the same basic costs for cosmetic surgery so you can expect it would be the same with this procedure. Generally, the price is going to be variable depending on how much competition there is between clinics and how many people are actually looking for hair transplants. In general, the most expensive part of the country seems to be the Midwest with the least expensive in the south.

Hair transplant cost is also determined by how big an area of the head needs to be treated. The larger the area, or the greater the number of areas, the more the hair implant surgery will cost. Each clinic has an established cost per transplant hair unit and so you can just take this price and multiply it by the number of units that need to be transplanted. Usually a patient needs around 1000 to a few thousand individual hair transplantations.

The cost of hair transplants will also be determined by what method is used whether it is the standard hair implant procedure or the Follicular Unit Extraction method. In the standard transplant method the surgeon actually removes a portion of the scalp that still has good, thick hair growth and uses this portion as a donor for the hair units. The section of the scalp from which this strip has been removed is then sown up. This can a leave a scar line which can be partially alleviated by using anti-scarring medicated lotions. Eventually the surrounding hair will cover up this line but it will always be at least partially visible upon close inspection.

With the Follicular Unit Extraction method, or FUE, the surgeon uses a special medical device to remove individual hair units from the skin without actually removing any of the scalp or other parts of the body. This leaves a very small wound which looks like a pin prick and heals within a few days. This method can be used to remove hairs from parts of the body other than the head which is great when a person is suffering from thinning hair along with pattern baldness. This is usually the case when women have bald spots.

So as you can see there are several variables to consider when you are trying to determine how much does a hair transplant cost. Usually you can expect to pay between $3 and $7 per implant when you go to a clinic in the US. One cheaper method is to go on a Hair Transplant Vacation and get your implants done while you are at a nice resort. By doing this you can often times get a very nice vacation, including air fare, and the procedure for less than half the cost of just the procedure in Europe or the US. The hair transplant surgery cost is much less and the care is second to none. Most of the cosmetic surgeons in places such as Brazil and Thailand have been trained in clinics and hospitals by board certified cosmetic surgeons in the EU and US.

The cost of hair transplants seems like a lot on first inspection but when you compare it to an ongoing treatment program with drugs, or a continuous cost of hair replacement systems it is very reasonable. Also, you don’t have to worry about it ever again. The hair grows just like the natural hair and it matches very well because it comes from the patient’s own body.
